About us
The human life cycle goes from health to pre-disease, to disease, and finally to death. Therefore, understanding and overcoming these phases is the very essence of life science, and it goes without saying that it is directly linked to ensuring human health. Among the life sciences, pharmacology has the advantage of being able to quantitatively understand the behavior and response of all substances, from synthetic chemicals to biomolecules, when they are exposed to or administered to the living body. Therefore, we believe that pharmacology is an academic field that can contribute to all phases. In particular, with medical costs increasing, in addition to understanding and overcoming “diseases,” it has become an urgent social mission to find ways to control “pre-disease” from occurring.
From this perspective, we aim to truly elucidate pathology by comprehensively understanding and intervening not only in the disease stage but also in the pre-disease stage, based on the pharmacokinetics that links substances and biological responses. Taken together, we named this laboratory Department of Pathological and Health Science. Research themes are diverse, ranging from 1) the development of functional foods and functional cosmetics, 2) elucidation of the molecular pathology of intractable diseases, and 3) development of new diagnostic and therapeutic methods.
As one of the laboratories in the newly established School of Pharmacy at the Prefectural University, our policy is to promote industry-academia collaboration by not only providing research and education to students on campus but also eliminating the barriers between industry both within and outside the prefecture and by easily promoting joint research and personal exchange. Therefore, if you are interested in developing food, cosmetics, or pharmaceuticals and are in trouble, please feel free to consult or contact us. We have already signed joint research contracts with several companies both within and outside the prefecture and have a track record of promoting personal exchange.
